A new edition of one of our most anticipated cultural and leisure events is here… The Cultural Week at Playa de la Cebada! This event has grown in popularity over the years, becoming the most significant leisure gathering in the south of the island. Closely linked to summer, relaxation, and warm weather, it offers a unique opportunity to enjoy both the festivities and the beach in Fuerteventura.
When is the Playa de la Cebada Festival?
These celebrations take place over an entire week in Morro Jable, usually in August, with most activities centered along the town’s scenic seafront promenade.
With more than twenty editions to date, this cultural event combines recreational and sports activities throughout the day on the promenade, followed by live music concerts on the beach of Morro Jable at night.
Activities and Fun at the Morro Jable Festival
People of all ages can find activities suited to their interests. Young visitors can enjoy various beach games, inflatable attractions, workshops, foam parties, zumba sessions, and a wide range of sports. Food lovers can indulge in a giant paella, traditional Canarian dishes, and a fantastic selection of restaurants and bars along the promenade.
At night, trophies are awarded to the winners of different competitions and sports tournaments, adding a celebratory touch to the event.
Music and Concerts at Playa de la Cebada
Throughout the Cultural Week at Playa de la Cebada, the beach becomes a lively stage for large-scale concerts and other activities such as dance workshops. One of the festival’s highlights is the Playa de la Cebada Song Festival, which has established itself as a key platform for up-and-coming artists from across the Canary Islands.
To conclude the week, the festival hosts a traditional music gathering, featuring various folk groups in the “Encuentro Parrandero”. This showcase of local music is one of the most eagerly awaited events, attracting both residents and visitors who get to experience the rich musical heritage of the islands. In past editions, performances have included groups such as Asociación Folclórica Maxorata, the Children’s Group of the Pájara Municipal School, Parranda La Cebada, and Parranda Los Mantequillas, among others.
The final day of the Cultural Week at Playa de la Cebada is dedicated to children, with a Grand Closing Kids’ Party, marking the festive finale of Morro Jable’s biggest summer celebration.
Organization of the Cultural Week at Playa de la Cebada
This extensive program of activities is organized by several entities, including the Department of Culture of the Pájara Town Hall, as well as local social, cultural, and sports organizations.
The Island Council of Fuerteventura supports the event by providing financial assistance, alongside the Pájara Town Hall, with subsidies exceeding €10,000 to help cover the costs of organizing the festival in Morro Jable.
