The route starts in Caleta de Fuste, a tourist centre and marina that has an 18th Century fortress and tower. Heading South we arrive in Antigua, an agricultural and handicraft village in which one can visit the craft Centre Molino de Antigua. As its differentiating feature, this Centre has a typical three-storey mill,inside of which we can observe the machinery of this type of traditional engineering. The same road leads to Betancuria, a town wrapped in a halo of glorious history and formed by a group of monuments and buildings that are exceptional within the architecture of the Island. The 18th Century Cathedral of Santa Maria de Betancuria is formed by three naves. Particulary interesting features of the cathedral include the main façade made out of white stone, the tower with four sections, the alterpieces, and the craftmanship of the vestry, the choir stalls and the baptistry. These buildings also form part of the group of the Ermita de San Diego (Hermitage of Saint James), a Franciscan convert – built in1423 of which today survive only remains of its foundations and walls – and the Museum of Sacred Art, the former parish hall. Following the route, we arrive in La Vega de Río Palmas, a place of pilgrimage, its church, which features an outstanding triumphal arch in its main chapel, houses the Virgen de la Peña, the patron saint of the Island. Heading in a Northerly direction we come to Casillas del Ángel, Los Llanos de la Concepción and the valley of Santa Inés; villlages settled on land of gentle relief that conserve all thier typical local character with mimetic buildings adapted to the Island’s climate. We arrive in Puerto Rosario, the capital and commercial centre of the Island, where we can visit the Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario and the Museum House of Unamuno. We finish the route returning to Caleta de Fuste by the Southern road, passing the airport and El Matorral.
